Beach Buzz Restaurant

Beach Buzz is a casual neighborhood spot on Gulf Beach Highway — the stretch you drive on the way to the Key, not once you’re there, which is exactly why the crowd is locals instead of beach traffic. It’s the kind of place a subdivision quietly adopts as its own: pizza, calzones, burgers, no theme, no gift shop. If you’re staying in the Sorrento or Bauer Road neighborhoods or coming back from Pensacola late, it’s on your way home in a way nothing on the island is.

What to order

Pizza is the reason to come. The dough is made fresh in-house every day, and the calzones get the same treatment, which is what separates a neighborhood pizza place from the ones that reheat. The burgers hold their own if somebody in the car is anti-pizza, and the menu is casual enough that nobody has to negotiate. Ordering a couple of large pies to carry back to the rental is the intended use, not a compromise.

Who it’s for

Locals on a weeknight, families who’ve had enough seafood for one trip, and anyone whose condo kitchen has exactly one pan. It’s also a sensible pick when the Key’s restaurants are running an hour wait on a summer Saturday — Gulf Beach Highway doesn’t get that crowd.

Good to know

Unhurried is the operating speed — sometimes more unhurried than you’d like, so don’t come starving with ten minutes to spare, and give a pickup order some lead time. There’s outdoor seating when the weather’s behaving. It sits on the Sorrento and Bauer Road side of the highway, a short drive from the Perdido Key beaches, and independent pizza is thinner on the ground out here than you’d expect.
