Pirate’s Island is destination mini golf — not the windmill-and-astroturf kind, but 36 holes landscaped through waterfalls, caves, a tidal lagoon, and a replica of the Queen Anne’s Revenge, Blackbeard’s ship. It sits on the Gulf Shores Parkway at the foot of the Intracoastal bridge coming down from Foley, which puts it about half an hour west of Orange Beach and a bit more from Perdido Key — a drive, but one that’s on the way if you’re heading to Gulf Shores anyway.
The course
Two 18-hole rounds’ worth of holes winding around Corsair’s Mountain and through the pirate theming. When to go
Summer afternoons on that stretch of parkway are hot, and there’s not a lot of shade on a mini-golf course. Evenings are the play — the heat’s gone, and the course has a different feel after dark.
