Is Perdido Key expensive? What does a trip cost?
Perdido Key is moderately priced — cheaper and quieter than Destin, roughly in line with Gulf Shores. In peak summer, a beachfront condo typically runs about $200–400 a night depending on size and view; the same unit can be half that in the off-season. A week for a family, with lodging, a fishing charter, dining out, and groceries, commonly lands somewhere in the $2,000–4,000 range. You control most of the cost through when you go and whether you cook in.
Where the money goes
Lodging is the big lever — summer beachfront condos often run $200–400/night, with off-season rates dropping well below. Dining is mid-range: expect roughly $15–35 per entrée at Gulf-front seafood spots like The Point or Fisherman's Corner. A half-day fishing charter for a small group typically runs a few hundred dollars; browse charters here. The beach itself is free.
How to keep it cheap
The condo kitchen is your friend — cooking a few meals and hitting the Publix or Winn-Dixie for the rest cuts the food bill hard. Go in May, September, or winter for lower rates. And remember the two state parks and the Backcountry Trail cost little to nothing — a lot of the best stuff here is free.
Compared to the neighbors
Destin and 30A run noticeably pricier and busier. Panama City Beach can be cheaper but trades away the calm. Perdido Key sits in the reasonable middle — nicer beaches than the budget spots, lower prices than the premium ones. Our where to stay guide breaks down lodging by area and price.

Plenty. The beach, the Backcountry Trail, sunset at Johnson Beach, and exploring the state parks (small entry fee) are low- or no-cost. Watching the sunset from the beach is the classic free evening.
Is Perdido Key cheaper than Destin?
Generally yes. Destin commands premium rates for lodging and dining, especially in summer. Perdido Key offers comparable beaches at a lower price point with fewer crowds.
