What are the best things to do in Perdido Key besides the beach?
Perdido Key is beach-first, but the standouts off the sand are paddling and birding at Big Lagoon State Park, walking the dunes at Perdido Key State Park, live music and bushwacker debauchery at the Flora-Bama, and getting on the water with a dolphin cruise or fishing charter out of nearby Orange Beach. It's a small key, so the bigger attractions (OWA, the zoo, The Wharf) are a short drive east.
On the water
The Key is really about the water. Book a dolphin cruise or a half-day fishing trip with Distraction Charters — you'll see more of the area from the Gulf than from your beach chair. For paddling, Big Lagoon State Park has calm protected water and a birding tower. Full list on the On the Water page.
On land
Perdido Key State Park is the quiet, undeveloped stretch — boardwalks, dunes, no condos. For a longer walk or bike, the paved Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail runs through several ecosystems just across the line in Gulf State Park.
Eat, drink, and the big stuff nearby
