The Rec Center on Wilson Boulevard is where Orange Beach actually works out — a city-run facility open since January 2003, and the answer when you want a real gym without joining anything or paying resort-fitness-room prices. It sits on the same campus as the city’s Aquatics Center, up the road from the Perdido Pass marinas, in the part of town where locals run their errands.
What’s inside
A full gymnasium, a fitness room with round-the-clock access for members, two multipurpose rooms, and a game room. There’s also a dedicated teen space where young adults can hang out, play games, and do homework — a small thing that tells you who this building is really for. Fitness and yoga classes run through the week on a posted calendar, and the gym floor is where pickup basketball happens when the leagues aren’t using it.
Who it’s for
Locals first, obviously — it’s their building. But visitors are welcome on a day pass during regular business hours, and that’s the use case we keep recommending: if you’re in town for a week and your rental’s “gym” is one dusty treadmill, a day pass here is the fix. Runners get bored of the beach road eventually; this is where you go for a real lift or a climate-controlled workout in August, when even an early jog feels like a swim.
Good to know
Members get the 24/7 fitness room; everyone else works around the building hours, so check the site before you drive over — municipal hours are shorter than a commercial gym’s. It’s a municipal building, not a boutique gym, and that’s the appeal — clean, functional, full of people who live here. Day-pass rates are cheap enough not to matter, but check the site for current figures rather than trusting us. Rained out of the beach with kids? The family page has the rest of the indoor list.
